It is a sad fact that mental illnesses are not given enough importance or attention as physical ones. Having a mental illness is seen as a sign of weakness, so patients keep their problems to themselves to avoid stigma. Anxiety is very common these days among the younger generation. They have access to all sorts of technology that nobody had before, but it is also causing a lot of harm to them.
Rachael Dove, author of Anxiety: The Epidemic Sweeping Through Generation Y, says that many factors are responsible for this, including technology, changes in parenting styles a exam=centered school system are some of the reasons for this generation’s problems.

Having too much choice also contributes to the angst. Research shows that people who don’t have as many choices are often stronger and resilient. They can blame other circumstances for their problems, while those with a wide range of choices can only blame themselves for their problems.

As anxiety becomes more prevalent in young people, many different methods are being developed to solve this problem. Researchers at Mindlab International are studying the effects of various kinds of music on stress and anxiety. They conducted an experiment to see which kind of music relaxes the mind, and the song featured below, “Weightless”, reduced participants’ anxiety by 65%. Listen to it yourself and feel the anxiety melt away!
